What Features of Living Systems Can We Simulate on a Quantum Computer?

In my talk I will present recent results regarding the role of quantum coherence in living molecules. Living molecules are difficult to simulate even if we assume that they are completely classical, but the fact that some of their key properties could be genuinely quantum, leads us naturally to inquire about the additional complexity of simulating them. I will briefly review evidence for quantum biology and then sketch out how quantum computers could be used to further our understanding of the role coherence might play in the energy and information transport processes in bio-molecules. A question presents itself if all biological features could be simulated on a quantum computer and, if so, would such a computer effectively be thought of as being alive.
