Teacher Meetings - Bristol - Tuesday 3rd July, 2012

9.30 am Registration
10.00 am Nrich - The highly popular session from the Nrich Project based at Cambridge University will demonstrate how to get the most out of mathematical materials to challenge and engage students. You will explore some of the material on their free website, www.nrich.maths.org , hear how teachers are using it and take away new ideas for your own classroom.
11.30 am Coffee
11.50 am UKMT - This session will use materials from our competitions, demonstrate the thinking behind the questions and consider how they and the ideas behind them can be used to stimulate classroom interest. The individual challenges are taken by over 600,000 UK students every year and over 1000 schools enter the Team Challenge and over 800 schools and colleges enter the Senior Team Challenge.
1.15 pm Lunch
2.00 pm Vinay Kathotia is Project Head for Mathematics at the Nuffield Foundation. The Foundation supports mathematics education and policy research, development of teaching resources, and CPD. Current areas of interest are learning via investigations and practical exploration, and mathematics for all post-16, including mathematical and statistical literacy across subjects. Prior to working at Nuffield, Vinay helped coordinate the UK-wide Royal Institution primary and secondary mathematics masterclasses. Vinay continues to develop and deliver masterclasses and volunteers for the UKMT mentoring and summer school programmes.
3.30 pm Close and optional session on the UKMT Mentoring Schemes - what these are and how they operate.
